Camp OFLA 2024 has received a federal grant from Startalk/NASA. By accepting this grant, we are able to offer CampOFLA 2024 for FREE to 104 participants. We must also follow these requirements:
1. Offer Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Russian
2. Interact with campers for 20 hours of pre-camp activities. These will be held virtually via Google Classroom and will include interview(s) with the teacher or assistant teacher to determine the camper’s level of proficiency (if any), online instruction or video of basic phrases, numbers and alphabet. We will make this as flexible as possible since campers are still in school in April/May. Begins in April.
3. Interact with campers for 20 hours of post-camp activities. These will also be held virtually via Google Classroom and will again provide campers with choices to assess their growth in the language. Choices will include listening and reading activities, spoken conversations with other campers and vocabulary acquisition.
4. Interact with campers during camp June 2-8, to engage in real life language as they attend lessons, engage in cultural activities, sing, make arts and crafts, as well as taste cultural dishes, hike, swim and play games. They will play with the language in fun ways that enhance their proficiency and cultural knowledge.
